It is active in encouraging and promoting the use of Arbitration and Mediation as an alternative to traditional litigation as the means for resolving disputes. The Branch provides a neutral appointment scheme for use by any party who wishes to have an arbitrator or mediator, knowledgeable about the process and who will ensure that the appointment is carried out in a scrupulously fair manner in accordance with established rules for use by the parties.
The Branch operates a list system and the persons chosen for the list will be the ones that the Appointments’ Committee considers to have the most suitable credentials for the nature of the dispute. The Branch is also charged with running the Bermuda International Commercial Arbitration Center.
