STUDENT INVITE. REGISTER FOR HECTOR BARCILON MEMORIAL MOOT 15 DECEMBER 2023: The annual Hector Barcilon Memorial Moot (the “Moot”) will be held on 15 December 2023. The Moot is an opportunity for Bermuda law students aspiring to enter the legal profession to gain valuable legal research and advocacy experience. As with previous years, students will make submissions on a hypothetical appeal before a distinguished panel consisting of jurists and senior members of the Bar. 

Students currently completing summer work placements at your firms who are interested in participating in the Moot are encouraged to submit their names via email to bdabar@logic.bm  There is no requirement for students to form their own teams and individual entries are welcomed; indeed, part of the aim of this year’s Moot is to provide a platform for students at different firms and legal departments on the island to work collaboratively.  Conversely, if students wish to form their own teams, there is no restriction on entering as a team of three as outlined below.

Interested students should submit their names. In the week following the Moot, teams will be communicated together with the case materials. Teams will have a few weeks to prepare prior to the Moot.   

The Moot itself will take place between two teams of three. The 2023 Moot will consist of where possible, two advocates and one researcher. Teams will be free to allocate roles amongst individual members. In the event that more participants put their name forward than spaces are available, names will be selected on a first come first serve basis.

As with previous years, prizes are on offer for the winning team.
