In order for a Barrister & Attorney to maintain a Practicing Certificate, the Attorney must complete 8 hours of Legal Education by October 31st of each year. The aim of the Continued Legal Education Committee is to assist members with their legal education by providing lectures on current legal developments, emerging issues, practice management and other areas of interest to practitioners.
Bar Council Covid-19 Pandemic adjustment of (8) CLE Credit hours requirement to (6) for Practising Certificate renewal 2021 & 2022:
In light of challenges caused by the Covid-19 Pandemic, Bar Council has adjusted the 8 hour CLE requirement to 6 hours for the 2021 and 2022 renewal years. We encourage members to view webinars until such a time that it is safe to once again gather in groups and attend training sessions in person.
Presentations are held at various times and at various locations (schedule permitting) and unless otherwise notified are free of charge. Pupils and visiting overseas Attorneys are welcome to attend sessions.
CALLING ON PRESENTERS TO FILL THE TRAINING CALENDAR AT THE BAR OFFICE FOR 2021!!
The Continued Legal Education (“CLE”) Committee consisting of Sara-Ann Tucker (Bar Council), Christal Hanna, Tiffany Boys and Aura Cassidy cordially invites members to fill the calendar with virtual training sessions for 2021 and 2022!! The Committee is calling on members to fill the calendar with at least 2 sessions a month to be scheduled from now until the end of the year. Please submit a quick email to the CLE Committee stating what subject matter you wish to speak on and your available dates. Sessions traditionally run on Wednesdays and Fridays from 12:30- until 1:30 p.m., however the Bar Office is flexible in that sessions may also be held late afternoons from 5 until 6:30 p.m. (in-perswon traing suspended due to Covid restrictions). Everyone has something to offer!! Attorneys who present legal, or legally related professional courses are entitled to the following CLE Credits: One hour lecture will be the equivalent of four hours of CLE credit; a two hour lecture will be the equivalent of eight hours of CLE credit. All Attorneys, Registered Associates & In-House Counsel must complete eight (8) hours during the period 1st November to 31st October in each calendar year (reduced to (60 hours for 2021 and 2022 practicing year).
